Ibadan Outreach: Menstrual Hygiene Education and Free Sanitary Pads

Ibadan Outreach: Menstrual Hygiene Education and Free Sanitary Pads

I have met girls who got pregnant simply because there was no one to guide them.

I have met girls who use pieces of cloth during their periods because they cannot afford sanitary pads.

I have met girls who saw their first period and had no idea what was happening to their bodies. Some were scared. Some thought something was wrong with them.

I have met girls who do not know what a menstrual cycle is—girls who have never heard the word “ovulation”, yet are growing into young women and making decisions about their bodies without the knowledge they need.

Honestly, this has been one of my biggest concerns.

A girl should not have to figure out womanhood alone.

Every girl deserves someone who will sit with her, answer her questions without judgement, teach her about her body, help her understand her menstrual cycle, and remind her that she has a future worth protecting.

That is why we started this project: Educating the Girl Child in Rural Communities on Menstrual Hygiene and Providing Free Sanitary Pads.

We are going into communities where access to menstrual education and basic sanitary products is limited, because we believe that where a girl lives should never determine how much she knows about her body or how confidently she walks into her future.

We want to teach her what her period is, how to care for herself during menstruation, what her menstrual cycle and ovulation mean, and how to make informed and healthy decisions.

Beyond the education, we want to put a sanitary pad in her hands and tell her:

You are seen, you matter, and your body is not something to be ashamed of. Your future matters to us.

More Than Distributing Sanitary Pads

It is about education.

It is about dignity.

It is about protection.

It is about giving girls the knowledge we wish every girl had from the beginning.

The Outreach Continued in Apa

On September 9, 2026, the second batch of the outreach took place in Apa, Ibadan, continuing the distribution of free sanitary pads.
